Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum
Located on Hwy 82. From I-95
(take Exit 71 and follow markers)

Historic markers and a museum outline the events of this March 1865 military action which highlights Lebanon, the 1825 plantation home used as a Confederate hospital, and the Chicora Cemetery, where the battle dead are buried. This battleground is included in the N.C. Civil War Trails.

Coats Museum

The museum was a two-room school converted into a museum. One room features local geneaologies and family artifacts of J. Thomas Coats, founder of the town. The second room features rotating displays including (christmas past, military through the years, local artisans and international events). The museum is open each Sunday from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and can be opened for group tours at any time.


Coble Ski & Wakeboard Camp Coble Ski School

Coble Water Ski School and Camp is one of the world's finest and most complete facilities. The camp consists of several provately-held lakes. Learn to slalom, wakeboard, trick ski, jump and more. Mastercraft competition ski boatds, demo equipment, four regulation slalom courses, full-size regulations jump ramp. Open April 1- October 4. Dunn-Erwin Trail
Exit 73, I-95 to Orange Avenue. Parking at either school.

This abandoned rail corrider has been transformed into a 5.3 mile nature trail for walking, biking and strolling. Trail takes you from Dunn through rural Harnett County and crosses a river. Trail open in daylight hours only.


Erwin History Room

Artifacts room collection related to the old Averasboro, Duke and early Erwin community. Hear stories of the Timber Rafters who created the Ghost Town of Averasboro and how a textile empire grew in Duke, now Erwin. The town was known for years as the Denim Capitol of the World.


General William C. Lee Airborne Museum
209 W. Divine Street, just off I-95 Exit 73

The home of Dunn native Major General William C. Lee, “Father of the U.S. Army Airborne.” General Lee was responsible for the concepts and organization of the Airborne. His former home is a three-story early 20th century Neo-classical revival house.

Admission, $1 for adults and children over 12.

Hammerstone Scout Museum
Located 9 miles west of Lillington.

The museum takes you back almost 100 years to the very roots of the Scouting movement. Contains memorabilia of Scouting pioneers and heroes. Open to the public by appointment only.


Harnett County Indian Museum
Off U.S. 401 near Angier

Rustic museum includes a craft shop, artifact display and a log cabin which highlights the early Harnett Indian villages and settler cabins which once thrived along the Cape Fear River.

Old Bluff Church
Located off Hwy 82, near the Averasboro battleground

The church was formed in 1758. James Campbell, the first minister, was from Pennsylvania. The church discontinued activity in 1921, but is still home to annual homecomings held the 4th Sunday in September.

Raven Rock State Park

The park features an immense crystalline structure rising 150 feet and stretching for more than a mile along the Cape Fear River. Experience the unspoiled, natural beauty of this 3,000 acre park through hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, camping, kayaking, picnicking and studying nature.

The Campbell House
US 421, Buies Creek, next to Campbell University

The home place of James Archibald Campbell, founder of Campbell University, was built in 1890 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The home is used as a community meeting place and reception hall. Can seat 50 to a sit-down dinner and can hold up to 200 for a standing reception. Group tours by appointment.


The Cornfield Maze

A large puzzle of twists and turns carved into a cornfield in Dunn. The field offers "agricutlure in process." Open Tuesday-Sunday, September through Thanksgiving. Also features concessions, games for the children, a miniature tricyle maze, pumpkin toss and much more. Bus and field trips welcome.


The Howard House
402 S. Layton Avenue in Dunn’s historic district

A Neo-classical Revival house with a full-length portico built in 1908-09 as a replica of the North Carolina building at the Jamestown Tri-centennial Exposition held in Jamestown, Va., in 1907. Maintained by the Dunn Women’s Club, the home is on the National Register of Historic Places.
